The Levitron - it's not magic, it's not a floating Tibetan Monk trick, it's just good old science, and it's truly amazing. Invented by a prolific, self-educated genius, and developed by a father and son team of physicists, it's a game, a puzzle, and a magic trick all rolled into one. The Levitron is a remarkable gizmo that enables you to levitate a spinning top into mid-air by harnessing the lifting force produced by two opposed permanent magnets. Named as one of the best science toys in a generation by the American Association of Physics Teachers, the Levitron has a spinning top which is stabilised above its magnetic base by using the gyroscopic effect that the spinning produces. To get the top to spin and balance within the magnetic field is a compulsive challenge, and no mean feat. The base unit needs to be dead level so that the force field is kept vertical, and to that end the base unit has fully adjustable feet. The great thing about this set is that it comes with a free 'Self-Starter' (which is normally extra) that fits onto the top and gets it spinning at high speed for you - so you don't have to do it by hand. It takes a steady hand and a feather-light touch to master, and watching it float free in mid-air is truly mesmerising. Features: floating top, magnetic base, built-in adjustable levelling feet, bonus Self-Starter, impact resistant construction, an assortment of adjustable weights, clear plastic lifter cover, instruction sheet, the Levitron physics guide, self starter requiring 1 x AA batteries. Size: Levitron base unit - 7 x 18cm diameter, Floating Magnet - 3 x 3.5cm. Note: the Levitron base contains powerful magnets, so keep it away from your credit cards and computer screens.
