Johannesburg - A new international survey by the MasterCard credit card company indicated that about 80% of South Africa's internet users make online purchases. According to the study, music albums and DVD movies sell best, followed by airline tickets and books. "Although the level of internet access in South Africa is still relatively low, more than three-quarters of the respondents regularly used the internet to buy online," reports Anthony West, head of MasterCard Africa. "In all, half of the respondents state that online purchases comprise a main reason for using the internet. "As broadband access in South Africa becomes easier, and bandwidth increases, online purchases will become even more popular." The study indicates that few impulse purchases take place on the Internet. About 88% of the South African group commented that they decided in advance what they wanted to buy. And 85%-odd considered security just as important as price when buying online. In all, 41% of the group had spent between R810 and R4000, and 84% declared themselves "very satisfied" with recent purchases. - Sake24.com For more business news in Afrikaans, go to
